Halloween is just a few days away and just started to make my kids their costume. A while back I asked what my son wanted to be and after being Spinderman or a dinosaur we ended up with Harry Potter. We started watching the movies with them this summer and he really likes them. Our daughter too, so she gets to be Hermine Granger! She has the same attitude, although here in the neighbourhood we have a friend who would be the perfect stand up for that character.
What do we need? Two capes, ties, white button shirts, glasses, wands, brooms!
Starting with the cape, black velvet. No, I do not carry that in my store but found it close to home. Pinterest is THE place to be and then of course also some cosplay forums. I took a basic one and added a hood.
Note - The cape my son is wearing is a bought one, turns out I had bought to little fabric in Mood Designers and there was no time left for me to drive to our closest fabrics/hobbystore in Birmingham AL.
The wands, hm, pretty expensive so again, pinterest and I gave those ideas a change to become our very own designed wands. We need a glue gun and paint oh and yes, of course a basic chop stick. Just round up some glue and hold it the way you want it I would say. There are tutorials that can guide you to make the exact copies but I did not want to put that pressure on me so I did it my way ;-)
oh yes - never ever handled a glue gun in my life! For some reason that was very scary!
While driving from one store to another I was thinking, how awesome would it be if I also give them brooms? I ordered some faux leather and that came on a big cardboard roll. So, I've cut that in half and added brown paper, wide tape for the steel. Then some brown fluffy iron things - still don't know the real name. Glue gunned that with some rope and tataaaa a broom!
The glasses and ties come from the biggest worldwide on line store. No need to name it, you all know which one I am talking about.
My kids, my little geeks, my very own (blond) Harry Potter and (stubborn as ...) Hermione Granger!
Trick or Treat! Here we come!!!!
I love this picture! How the sun is playing around - magic!
Have a great day!
Fall has arrived! That means in the South - in the mornings and late evening you'll need a sweater. Well, my daughter needed a new one. And I was thinking of a way to combine 3 kinds of fabrics. I used knit, Love Birds from Megan Blue Fabrics, the hot pink solid Sweater and the light pink ribbing.
My girl is all about the pink but prefers not to wear dresses or skirts - so we find a way to compromise right? I made a basic shirt pattern a bit longer - tunic style; added pockets and a cowl. That will give it the look that matches my daughter - details and sporty. Only a legging and done! She is dressed! The pockets are a run-trough kind of pockets. Which means her hand can reach each other. The Love birds fabric is sew together behind the light pink ribbing ribbon and in the waistband. She is a girls but loves to have pockets. I do too actually.
The pockets - run from one side to the other
Long enough not to have a cold back and short enough to play and climb at the playground
The way that I change patterns is a proces that goes while cutting. I think "hm this could be nice or let's add this or that" That also means that along the way I might have to take a step back and change something so it will all fit. But, honestly, I really enjoy that. That makes my creations really my own - The EldFluga touch. One can not re-invent the wheel or hot water or whatever but one can give details that make it your own, to make your own unique item. And I would not share what I do - or try to - if you could not use it in your own designs. Sharing is caring - let's be nice to each other.
While making this one I am already thinking about the next one I want to make for my son - with some changes he will like more - less girly - the brain never stops right?
While working on this one I have some other projects going on. A lounge/pj set for myself. Well actually, my dear friend in Belgium ordered one and before I make hers I wanted to try out some patterns on me. Win win as I said in a previous blogpost. She and I have a similar taste so that works out just fine too! The raglan is with a backruntrough piece - which I really love! The detail is on the back, great! I might iron on something on the front - to break up the grey. The pants - with cuffs - love it! Cosy! And if I would use a different kind of fabric like a cotton rayon, the would look very stylish!
I love these kind of pockets!
And then this little project, my daughters nap map got lost in daycare - for some unknown reason - and my heat press arrived - What better project is there to test out my heat press? Personalise everything - this is the South!
Besides offering these great fabrics I also offer the service of vinylizing your products. You know how to contact me!
Happy sewing, Elisa

Don't miss out on this one! Valid trough nov 30!
Fall has arrived - chilly mornings - chilly evenings. What do we need? Hoodies! Yes! PJ's! Yes! So, worked out a few patterns - mixed and matched up the best of a few and created my own EldFluga pattern - no no - not to sell - just to use and offer you a handmade item. Children are the easiest for me to sew for. I see them playing, sleeping, ... I see the pattern lines moving while they move. And a child's body is easier to dress. us adult on the other hand are a quit the challenge. We are all build differently. So, measurements need be taken very precise. I have a few orders to make for my family and friends back in Belgium and that is the challenge. There is no way they can come over to have a fitting moment - nope, I have to have it spot on! And what better way to do that then to make my husband and myself what my customers ask? Right! A win win! Love it!
I can only say, stay tuned - I have lot's to tell you, lot's to learn, lot's to share!
Thank you, Elisa
